Scarborough diving - enjoy distinctive feeling
Tobago, one of the Caribbean's finest diving locations, becomes a magic kingdom below the surface of the sea. Fringing and offshore reefs surround this little island, making it a diver's (or snorkller's) paradise. A rich sub-sea flora and fauna is supported by the mix of nutrients from the Guyana current and the Orinoco River. Hundreds of fish species thrive amidst forests of hard and soft corals; turtles; sharks and giant manta rays cruise the turquoise waters. Some of the best diving in Tobago is to be found in the north, off the villages of Speyside and Charlotteville. Little Tobago Island is a favourite dive site, partly because of the giant mantas that are frequently sighted in the area. One of the world's largest recorded brain corals is also to be found in these waters. Several dive shops operate on the island, providing the visitor with a choice of instructors, dive guides and equipment rentals. The moon has a dramatic effect on the currents along the Atlantic coast of Tobago. The few days prior to a full moon usually brings stronger and less predictable currents, and rougher seas. This does not prohibit diving, it just makes for more exciting high energy drift dives! Atlantic currents return to their normal predictable pace and direction a day or so after the passing of the full moon. Dive operators and hotels can arrange packages and dive courses to suit you. Tobago has plenty of dive operators. Check around before you book. Most hotels can organise dive trips for you, but a few are specialist and popular dive hotels. Hilton Tobago Golf & Spa Resort has the ultimate adventure for SCUBA enthusiasts with our diving package. Located on the Hilton Tobago Golf & Spa Resort premises, the World of Watersports is a PADI 5 Star Gold Palm IDC Centre which was awarded Dive Operator of the Year in 2002. Situated on Pigeon Point, Tobago's most renowned beach, we also feature the Club Mistral Windsurf Center. The dive schedule at the Hilton is a two tank dive from 9:00am in the morning, and an optional extra dive or snorkel in the afternoon, every day of the year, plus night dives when requested at 6:30pm. You should arrive about 30 minutes before departure to allow for paperwork and equipment preparation. Once you reach the jetty to meet the boat, the dive equipment will have been already loaded aboard, on one of the specially designed dive boats, for the short journey to the dive site. There are some 20 dives in the southern area of Tobago, ranging from Drift Dives, Wreck Dives and pelagic orientated dives, just about everything you may be looking for. The boat stays out between the first two dives of the day, to give you a chance to take a break, have a drink or fresh fruit which we provide, before the second dives of the day.
